St. James Baptist Church has a strong foundation of 152 years of ministry in the community of Caroline County, Virginia. We are seeking an experienced, bi-vocational and spiritual candidate to serve as Pastor. We are in constant prayer for the next pastor who will help continue the growth of God’s people.


The candidate must be licensed and ordained in the Baptist church. The candidate qualifications must align with the scriptures as outlined in 

1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:6-9 and Peter 5: 1-4.  The ideal candidate for St. James must be a visionary with strong leadership skills who will preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Teach sound Baptist doctrine. Promote spiritual growth and development as well as engage in pastoral care. Able to interact effectively with our multi-generational congregation. Demonstrates an understanding of church management.

Pastor Job Description

The Pastor is responsible for all aspects of ensuring that the congregation is connecting with one another spiritually through a growing ministry and community.

Job Functions

  • Foster community involvement and spiritual growth of the Church Worshippers
  • Preach worship services with the option of utilizing other Ministers when needed 
  • Visit Sick and Shut in and Serve Communion 

  • Develop curriculum and Teach Bible Study
  • Be present at annual Homecoming and Revival Services and attend other services when possible
  • Officiate at weddings and funerals

  • Plan and officiate at church business meetings 
  • Provide leadership training to Officers and Leaders of the Church
  • Lead the celebration of Holy Communion and Baptism


This position requires a minimum of 5 to 7 years’ experience as a staff member in ministry leadership capacity. Possession of or in Pursuit of a Master of Divinity Degree is required. 

Extensive ministry experience can be substituted.

Salary is commensurate with level of education.
